Setting for our film

We decided to base our film in a school. This was because as this is where our demographic are most likely to be be. It is a recognisable scene, especially for our demographic as they are at the age of attending sixth-form/college. We used the corridor to base the important scene of the opening scene of the film. This was because the corridor is the open space that all students use. This was important at this point in the film as it is stereotypical of a school fight to take place outside of lesson. We showed this by using a Low Angle of the school sign. Also we used tracking to follow the way Peter walked. This allowed the audience to connect straight away and recognise that it was based in a school. We did this because this is where most teen angst films are based.
The classroom was used to make the audience feel sympathy for Peter. We did this by using the classroom as a way for Peter to feel alone, as the whole class are in there and they stare at him when he walks in. Both of these are stereotypical places for our demographic to be as they are either at sixth form or college.
This relates back to my research and planning of teen angst films. Films such as Mean Girls and Wild child are all based at schools. This is because the target audience are able to relate to the film and the characters because it shows a typical 'school day'. However our film is British and Wild child is also, this means the attitudes of the children are more like the characters in wild child. Although despite this our film doesn't consist of a school uniform, which is like mean girls.

At the beginning of our film, we used the setting of a house. This was because most teenagers still live at home and get ready in the morning and follow the same routine as Peter did in the film. All the rooms that we included were recognisable to the demographic. We included the use of setting in the bathroom. This was because stereotypically our demographic tend to spend time in the mirror to make themselves 'look good'. This is like the teen angst film 17 Again. Unlike most teen angst films, 17 again also is about a boys life compared to a girls. This film is based within a house along with a school.

  1. Some good evidence here Amy of how your own settings are linked back to your research into existing films in the genre. Well done
