Wild Child Summary

Sixteen-year-old Poppy is a self-obsessed, incorrigible brat who lives a pampered life in her L.A. world. Although she's handed credit cards with unlimited balances and surrounded by countless hangers on, Poppy can't escape the mounting frustration she feels with her family situation. And she makes sure that everyone knows it. After an over-the-top prank pushes her father one step too far, Poppy is shipped off to an English boarding school. Finding herself in a foreign world of early curfews, stern matrons and mandatory lacrosse, the American princess has finally met her match: a school of British girls who won't tolerate her spoiled ways. Under the watchful eye of the school's headmistress and surrounded by a new circle of friends, Poppy begrudgingly realizes her bad-girl behavior will only get her so far. But just because she must grow into a fine young lady doesn't mean this "wild child" won't be spending every waking hour shaking up a very proper system.

Wild child was filmed in various places. It was filmed mainly in England but also some parts are in Malibu. This was to show the different cultures of what the main character Poppy is.

Clothing
Poppy’s clothing is very stereotypical especially for a female American, she wears expensive designer brands. She also wears sunglasses despite the fact it’s dark and raining. This shows that she is not happy about the move to England. It also makes her stand out from everyone else with her expensive clothing and shoes. She is a counter type because even when she wears the school uniform she still stands out by customising it.

Her friends however wear a plain, boring school uniform, with sensible shoes and their hair up, showing they respect the schools standards and do not care about their looks.  The way they dress is iconography for a girls boarding student. They wear long tartan patterned skirts and a grey blazer.

All the girls have basic, cheap mobile phones whilst Poppy has multiple iPhone’s. This shows the contrast between them and that poppy values expensive things more than the rest of them.

Camera Shots

A variety of camera shots are used in the film, there are numerous close-ups on Poppy's clothing and expensive accessories.

Poppy’s house in Malibu
The first part of the film is set in California at Poppy’s house. It is a stereotypical 'American' house as its it Malibu on the beach with a pool. It suggests to the audience that Poppy is spoilt and rich.

Abbey Mount
The school is also a main setting in the film, it is stereotypical English boarding school and is considered to be posh which is what people connote England as.  It looks dull, gloomy, yet posh and well looked after. The low key lighting suggests that the school is dull and boring.

Dormitory
The room looks dull and boring. It simply has 4 beds in and a wardrobe. Again the lighting is low key and shows that Poppy doesn't look impressed with what she has to live in.
